FAQs:

You say you don't accept corporate sponsorships, but some of your sponsors look like corporations!

Because we do not believe in pinkwashing and the corporatization of Pride, Trans Pride Seattle has never and will never accept corporate sponsorships. Our tabling and sponsorship pages clearly state that we do not allow these groups to sponsor or table.

We do allow employee resource groups to sponsor. An employee resource group is a group of employees at a company who are using their own funds—not funds from the corporation—to sponsor TPS. Often, the logos for employee resource groups are similar to their affiliated company, making it look like TPS is sponsored by—for example—Starbucks, when in fact it is sponsored by the employee resource group Starbucks Pride Network.

Why is there no march as part of Trans Pride anymore?

Between 2013 – 2019, Trans Pride Seattle (TPS) has held a march as part of our event, honoring our legacy of resistence and mobilizing community members to continue the fight against the oppressions our community faces.

In 2022, after making the difficult decision to not hold a march as part of TPS that year, we were reminded of the benefits of (1) not having a police presence at our event (as is required by city law to hold a march) or (2) having to navigate the red-tape of securing the necessary permits (which has at times been challenging for our small organizing committee).

For these reasons, we have chosen to continue hosting TPS solely in the park, without a march component.

Can we march anyway?

We do not encourage it. Instead, we invite attendees to enjoy a nice evening among community in the park. Gender Justice League has not requested a city permit for marching, and we are not coordinating with the Seattle Police Department, as is legally required for a march to take place.
